Come On Midday!

MIDDAY gave all at Warren Place a wonderful Group 1 triumph with her majestic success in the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood today.

It's time for the flsg!

The Oasis Dream filly overcame the testing ground conditions to land a richly deserved first victory at the highest level.

Trainer Henry Cecil was thrilled as the Midday carried the familiar green and pink silks of his long-term owner Prince Khalid Abdulla to a fabulous win.

Jockey Tom Queally was barely visible at times upon Midday as the sea-fret descended upon the famous Sussex track. But her followers need not have been concerned as the 11/2 shot always moved with purpose and courage.

After Barshiba had led them along early, it was Midday who burst through the gloom to lead from over 2f furlongs out in the mile-and-a-quarter event.

She stayed on strongly as Rainbow View launched a stirring challenge but Midday wasn’t for passing, roaring home with two and a quarter lengths to spare.

“She doesn't like it soft but I had seen her work well on good to soft, and they were going through it.

"I couldn't watch the race, and felt quite sick. But I heard everyone shouting 'come on Midday, come on Midday' so I knew that we weren't tailed off!”

Cecil mentioned that the Prix de l’Opera is likely to come under consideration, while she is still in the Yorkshire Oaks.

But that’s all in the future. Sometimes, racing is about savouring the moment and there is no doubt, today’s success was as sweet as they come. Hoist the flag!
