Maria back with a bang
Go Back
MARIA Nunziata defied a 145-day lay-off to run away with the extended mile maiden at Wolverhampton tonight.

The daughter of Green Desert had been third on each of her three previous racecourse outings before encountering a small setback in the summer.

But connections' patience was rewarded with a comprehensive success with the filly having been brought back in trip from 1m 2f.

Jockey Tom Queally had her tracking the early speed from the gates and was noted travelling ominously well as the field swung the top turn into the home straight.

The front-running Harry Daze could not go on approaching a furlong out and the favourite No Mean Trick simply had no answers when Queally brought Maria Nunziata with a withering challenge on the inner rail.

She quickly asserted and galloped clear to return the 2/1 winner by four and a half lengths.
