AVOIR CHOISI maintained Peter Chapple-Hyam’s good start to the year with a straightforward success at Kempton tonight.

Avoir Choisir - won at Kempton tonight

The Choisir colt fulfilled the promise of his first two runs by breaking his maiden at the third time of asking.

Jamie Spencer was aboard the odds-on shot in the 7f contest and was content to get a nice tow into the race from the second favourite Elisario.

He was sat third as they entered the straight and really began to use that long fluent stride to good effect.

Elisario resisted gamely, but approaching the final furlong there was only going to be one winner as Avoir Choisi strode away to win by three lengths.

A delighted Chapple-Hyam said: “He seems to be improving with each run and although there was no real depth to the field he won well enough, showing a good attitude.”

The win came just three days after Chapple-Hyam tasted success - as an owner!

The St Gatien Stables’ boss had his 10-year-old Grey Shark in action at Ampton in a point-to-point at the weekend when yard secretary Kelly Smith booted it home to widespread delight.
