MONITOR CLOSELY gave a solid performance to finish fourth in the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York on Thursday.
The Oasis Dream colt showed a willingness to fight right to the end as he stayed on in going down by two lengths to Black Bear Island.
It was the latest in a series of very respectable efforts from the Laurie Inman-owned Monitor Closely, who doesn’t know how to run a bad race.
He could give his owner another big day out with Royal Ascot now featuring on his agenda.
Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam said: “Monitor Closely ran a really good race at York but won’t be supplemented for the Derby.
“We will enter him in the Listed Hampton Court Stakes (June 18) at Ascot - and he is also in the Irish Derby (June 28).”
